Amanda’s Story

Amanda is an assistant professor at the University of Kansas dedicated to understanding and promoting equity in higher education. With a primary focus on LGBTQIA+ college students, Amanda’s research explores the experiences, development, and brilliance of this community. Through her work, she brings new lenses for thinking about issues in higher education by merging her professional background in higher education with her research. Research & Publications

Amanda’s research aligns within two primary areas: (1) the development and experiences of LGBTQIA+ students in higher education and (2) equity and inclusion in educational contexts. She remains one of the only higher education scholars advancing studies of asexuality and aromanticism as distinct social identities. As a scholar, Amanda uses her practitioner experience as a tool for outlining strategies, interventions, and policies for applying her research to reducing inequality in higher education. Amanda’s scholarship is featured in several book chapters and academic journals, including the Journal of College Student Development, Journal of Diversity in Higher Education, Teachers College Record, and Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice. She has facilitated hundreds of workshops and presentations, including invited speeches and consultations.
